چکیده

The conventional method of imposing time dependent boundary con itioras for Runge-Kutta (RK) time advancement reduces the formal accuracy of the space-time method to first order locally, and second order globally, independently of the spatial operator. This counter intuitive result is analyzed in this paper. Two methods of eliminating this problem are proposed for the linear constant coefficient case: 1) impose the exact boundary condition only at the end of the complete RK cycle, 2) impose consistent intermediate boundary conditions derived from the physical boundary condition and its derivatives. The first method, while retaining the RK accuracy in all cases, results in a scheme with much reduced CFL condition, rendering the RK scheme less attractive. The second methodetains the same allowable time step as the periodic problem. However it is a general remedy only for the linear case. For non-linear hyperbolic equations the second method is effective only for for RK schemes of third order accuracy or less. Numerical studies are presented to verify the efficacy of each approach.

The Development and Application of the RCW Method for the Solution of the Blasius Problem

In this research, a numerical algorithm is employed to investigate the classical Blasius equation which is the governing equation of boundary layer problem. The base of this algorithm is on the development of RCW (Rahmanzadeh-Cai-White) method. In fact, in the current work, an attempt is made to solve the Blasius equation by using the sum of Taylor and Fourier series. While, in the most common ...

Time integration of rectangular membrane free vibration using spline-based differential quadrature

In this paper, numerical spline-based differential quadrature is presented for solving the boundary and initial value problems, and its application is used to solve the fixed rectangular membrane vibration equation. For the time integration of the problem, the Runge–Kutta and spline-based differential quadrature methods have been applied. The Runge–Kutta method was unstable for solving the prob...

The Correct Formulation of Intermediate Boundary Conditions for Runge-Kutta Time Integration of Initial Boundary Value Problems

Pseudospectral and high-order finite difference methods are well established for solving time-dependent partial differential equations by the method of lines. The use of highorder spatial discretizations has led in turn to a concomitant interest in high-order time stepping schemes, so that the temporal and spatial errors are of comparable magnitude. Explicit Runge-Kutta methods are widely used ...

The smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for solving generalized variable coefficient Schrodinger equation and Schrodinger-Boussinesq system

A meshless numerical technique is proposed for solving the generalized variable coefficient Schrodinger equation and Schrodinger-Boussinesq system with electromagnetic fields. The employed meshless technique is based on a generalized smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) approach. The spatial direction has been discretized with the generalized SPH technique. Thus, we obtain a system of ordinary...

Approximate Solution of the Second Order Initial Value Problem by Using Epsilon Modified Block-Pulse Function

The present work approaches the problem of achieving the approximate solution of the second order initial value problems (IVPs) via its conversion into a Volterra integral equation of the second kind (VIE2). Therefore, we initially solve the IVPs using Runge–Kutta of the forth–order method (RK), and then convert it into VIE2, and apply the εmodified block–pulse functions (εMBPFs) and their oper...
